Above 2,000m altitude, the Upper Tarentaise valley is snow-covered from December to May. This guarantees great off-piste skiing all season throughout the world-famous surrounding resorts. Itinerary

For the Star Tarentaise Ski Tour, the base is in Landry, central to many of the valley's ski areas. This way, the group can choose a daily destination that will make the best of the local snow and weather conditions; the right place at the right time. There are major itineraries that call for multiple descents of 1,500 to 2,000 meters in the same day. One night is spent in a mountain lodge near Les Menuires in the 3 Vallees, allowing for wonderful access to the best off-piste skiing in the region. Some days, the group will follow inter-resort itineraries that connect several of the major ski areas. It is possible to book this ski safari for a weekend or 3, 4, 5 or 6 days depending on your availability. Whilst the day to day ski location is flexible, you can see the full program options via the Itinerary tab.

Skiing & Terrain

From the top of a ski lift in the chosen resort for the day you will traverse, hike or skin away from the ski resort to find the secret passages that will reward you with descents up to 2,200 metres vertical (over 6,000 vertical feet) on virgin slopes even after several days of clear weather. A full spread of terrain options are available - steeps, bowls, couloirs, trees, gentle slopes. Your guides will adapt the daily program according to your skills and mood.

Skier Ability

This tour is rated as a Level 1 "Soft Adventure" for skiers only (sorry, no snowboarders) at ease on a red (intermediate) slope, making it ideal for families with children. You should have some prior experience off-piste and in deep powder. The tour incorporates lift access with traversing, hiking and skinning to get to the best untracked snow, therefore you should have a good level of fitness.

Accommodation & Lodging

For this ski safari, you will stay at the Hotel l’Alpin in Landry, ideally located about 15 minutes from most of the ski resorts visited during the tour. Those who wish to regain warmth and conviviality after a day full of powder will not be disappointed! On longer tours, a night at the Lac du Lou mountain hut (at 2,035 meters altitude), near Les Ménuires will bring a touch of authenticity to this tour. All included meals are from local ingredients and prepared fresh. For more information on accommodation & food see the Lodging tab.

Itinerary

For the Star Tarentaise Ski Tour, the base is the Alpin hotel in the village of Landry. It is conveniently located about 15 minutes from 4 of the ski resorts on this tour. With high elevations in the surrounding mountains, the Upper Tarentaise valley is snow-covered from December to May. This guarantees great off-piste skiing all season throughout the world-famous surrounding resorts: Val Thorens, Les Menuires, La Plagne, Les Arcs, Sainte Foy, La Rosiere - La Thuile (Italy). The itinerary will be set closer to the tour date in consultation with the guides & guests.

Day To Day Itinerary options after arrival include:

VAL-THORENS - LES MÉNUIRES
One night at the Lac du Lou refuge located between the Carron peak & the Pointe de la Masse makes it possible to discover an ideal sector for off-piste skiing in the 3 Valleys.

LES ARCS, PEISEY - VILLAROGER
Les Arcs has the regions's longest skiable descents, up to 2,200 m vertical on completely wild slopes. Two major routes are possible - either by going down to Villaroger from the Aiguille Red (3,200m); or from the Grand Col (3,000m) in the upper valley of Peisey.

SAINTE-FOY-TARENTAISE
Another classic day in the Haute Tarentaise in the region's smallest (but most would say best!) ski area - Sainte Foy. Discover in particular the magnificent north-face of Foglietta, amongst other fabulous off-piste descents. All are just a short walk/skin from the top ski lift.

LA PLAGNE - MONTCHAVIN
We have time to enjoy the immense Paradiski area with its grandiose routes including the descent of the north face of Bellecôte to 3200 m.

LA ROSIERE - LA THUILE (ITALY)
Take a tour to Italy by off-piste routes from the top of the new Mont Valezan chairlift, or the opportunity to take the helicopter from La Thuile & drop off at the Ruitor glacier from where you descend on the French side by a beautiful route of 2,200 m vertical drop.
