Ski Safari Dolomites Itinerary for a Classic 7 Day Tour

The Day Before….
Most people arrive at Bolzano by train, where there is a 15 minute walk to Villa Anita B&B. You will meet your host & guide for an evening briefing. Villa Anita will be your “base camp” and the friendly staff will store the rest of your extra luggage during the Ski Safari Dolomites tour days. Your experience of the atmospheric Dolomites begins with a dinner at the traditional Hopfen Restaurant (homemade beer & bread…. not a bad start!).

See the Ski Safari Dolomites map here.

DAY 1 - The Seiser Alm Ski Area (Val Gardena)
From Bolzano to Sella Pass (5 – 6 hours of skiing)

The Ski Safari group sets off from Bolzano at 07.30 on the local ski bus and we arrive at the Seiser Alm Cableway at 08.30. In the morning, traverse the sunny ski area of Seiser Alm on an extended plateau perfect for getting your ski legs. Then ski downhill into Val Gardena to the town of Ortisei. The route continues to the other side of the valley via the Seceda/Rasciesa ski area and a descent into the town of St Christina. Finally, up to the Ciampinoi ski area along the famous slope “Sasslong” & eventual arrival at Sella Pass.

Overnight at Rifugio Carlo Valentini or at another rifugio.

DAY 2 – Arabba Marmolada
From Sella Pass to Sottoguda/Alleghe (about 6 hours skiing).

The second day of the Ski Safari Dolomites is an exploration of the central part of the Dolomites. From the Rifugio the group descends to Lupo Bianco junction, continues to Pordoi Pass, the town of Arabba and up to Padon Pass. You will descend to Malga Ciapela and from there take three long cable cars to the top of the Marmolada. This is the tallest mountain in the Dolomites (3,365 m. = 11,040 ft.). Enjoy the incredible view before taking an extended downhill run of about 2000 vertical meters back to Malga Ciapela & then continuing along the impressive Sottoguda canyon to the charming town of Sottoguda.

Overnight at the La Montanara Hotel or in another hotel at Alleghe Lake.

DAY 3 – Civetta Ski Area
From Sottoguda/Alleghe to Cortina (about 5 hours of skiing).

From the centre of the town of Alleghe we take the first cableway of the Civetta ski area. This is the quietest day of the Ski Safari Dolomites because the Civetta ski area is a hidden gem, known only to the local Italian skiers. Here you traverse unforgettable landscapes near the impressive north wall of the Civetta peak. From Pescul, the group will take the local ski-bus to the Averau ski area where you cross to the famous Cinque Torre ski area. After enjoying these slopes, take the ski-bus to Cortina.

Overnight in Cortina or at Rifugio Col Gallina at Passo Falzarego.

DAY 4 - Cortina

The three ski areas of Cortina: Tofane + Faloria + Cristallo (about 6 hours of skiing).

The fourth day of the Ski Safari Dolomites is completely dedicated to the three magnificent ski areas of Cortina. In the morning, you will start with the Tofana ski area, the largest in Cortina and home to the famous black slope of the Canalone di Tofana. Then, in the afternoon, go to the opposite side of town, first to the ski area of Faloria and then across to the Cristallo ski area.

Overnight in Cortina or at Rifugio Col Gallina at Passo Falzarego.

DAY 5 - Alta Badia
The ski areas of the Alta Badia (about 6 hours of skiing).

From Cortina, the Ski Safari Dolomites continues along the large Alta Badia ski area. This is one of the most extended ski areas in the Dolomites. You will traverse these long slopes from east to west. The day begins with the incredibly long ski slope off the Lagazuoi, which ends with a short flat section with a horse-aided transfer… Yeah! You read that right… Horse transfer! We’ll end the day at the Sanctuary of the Sass dla Crusc. This holy area was a pagan Sanctuary before the Christian era and the church (Santa Croce) and pilgrim hostel that we see today were built in the medieval period. Ski back to Corvara.

Overnight in a hotel in Corvara.

DAY 6 - Val di Fassa
The ski areas of the Fassa valley (about 7 hours of skiing) The first goal on this morning is the Gardena pass, following which you will head downhill to Selva in the Gardena valley and then arrive again at Sella pass, from where we descend to Canazei in the Fassa Valley. Five minutes on the ski bus connects the three ski areas of the Colac, Giumela & Buffaure. We finish this long day at the super panoramic Rifugio Baita Cuz.

Overnight – Rifugio Baita Cuz

DAY 7 - Val di Fiemme
The ski areas of Predazzo, Pampeago & Obereggen (about 4 hours of skiing).

This is the last day of the full Ski Safari Dolomites. Enjoy the sunshine from the windows of the Baita Cuz during breakfast and then take the first long downhill slope to Pozza di Fassa. 15 minutes on the ski bus takes us to the three ski areas of Predazzo, Pampeago & Obereggen. It’s a mellow day to enjoy life and take in the final panoramas of the Dolomites.

From Obereggen, we take the local ski bus back to Bolzano. There we’ll have time to visit the famous “Otzi” ice mummy museum & have dinner at the traditional and historic Ca de Bezzi restaurant (open since 1404 – 88 years before the discovery of America!). A brilliant end to a great ski week!

The Day After….
Your departure from Bolzano.

NOTE: This itinerary is a guide. The tour is dictated by your daily wishes & the weather each day. Your guide will fit around where the best conditions are. That’s the beauty of a guided ski safari tour!
