Purcell Heli Skiing

With Purcell Heli Skiing at Kicking Horse Ski Resort you can sup on all the Ca-pow that you want! You can feast on a banquet of fresh tracks until you get your fill of powder. Of course it’s sometimes impossible to quell the appetite of a true powder hound. One taste of the deliciousness of heli skiing and riding down that alluring fluffy powder in a pristine backcountry environment, and you may just want to go again and again!!

Purcell Heli Skiing can certainly deliver when it comes to fresh tracks in great snow. The heli skiing tenure is massive and the powder is abundant with approximately 590 inches (15 metres) of snowfall per season. And when it comes to snow quality, Purcell Heli Skiing also comes through with the goods. The Purcell Mountains are part of the Interior of British Columbia, which is renowned for amazing snow quality; light and dry.

This Golden heli skiing is paradise for powder hounds that like to hunt down fresh powder, although you won’t have to actually hunt for it. The powder will be on tap!

Unleash the hounds! You can choose from single day packages, a 2 day heli-ski immersion, or a 3 day heli-ski ultimate package. The Purcell Heliskiing occurs in small groups of 6 guests, with 2 guides, and only ONE group per day in the large Bell 205 helicopter.

The founder and owner, Rudi Gertsch, was one of the grand-daddies of heli skiing and Purcell has been operating since 1974. Rudi was one of the forefathers of HeliCat Canada, which has been instrumental in establishing the safety standards of Canadian heli skiing to make them the best in the world. Purcell Heli Skiing continues to place a major focus on the safety considerations of heli skiing, and having such a small guest to guide ratio is a bonus.

At the end of what may be one of the best days of your life (or best few days), you can kick back at the bar for après ski festivities – an awesome venue for telling embellished stories of a great day out! This Golden heli skiing is golden!

Purcell Heliskiing Terrain

The size of the heli skiing tenure is about average for a Canada heliskiing outfit – which is enormous!! With more than 2,000 square kilometres of terrain, there are fresh tracks galore and lots of terrain variety. The type of terrain tackled will be dependent on the weather, avalanche stability and group ability, but the guides can pick from wide-open glaciers, large alpine bowls, the sub-alpine where the trees are very widely spaced, cut-blocks, and tree skiing.

The difficulty of the slopes is akin to blue (intermediate) and black (advanced) runs at a ski resort, with more challenging terrain available subject to avalanche conditions and guest ability.

The vertical drop of the runs is about 750 metres on average. A day of heli skiing includes 4,000 metres of vertical, whilst a 2 day heli ski immersion package includes 9,000 metres of vertical, and a 3 day heli ski ultimate package includes 15,000 metres of vertical.

Purcell Heli Skiing is with small groups of six guests, with two guides, and only ONE group per day using the one helicopter - a Bell 205, so there's plenty of space.

Just a top notch operation staffed with the nicest most knowledgeable guides and staff out there. The mountains they fly are amazing and the lines are endless. It's all there and I've never felt safer than in Rudy and Jeff's capable hands.
Ps I've been 7 times and looking forward to getting back this coming season again.
