Valhalla Cat Skiing Packages

Valhalla Cat Skiing offers day packages, so you can flexibly include snowcat skiing in your trip to the Nelson area or the Selkirk Powder Triangle. Snowcat skiing is pretty addictive, so you might need to incorporate more than one day of Valhalla Cat Skiing into your itinerary. The only downside is that you can’t be spontaneous, as Valhalla Powdercats tends to book out well in advance.

Each day, Valhalla Powdercats operate two snowcats that carry 12 guests and 2 guides. Depending on snow conditions and the speed of the group, a typical day can offer from 7 to 13 runs which can equate to 13,000 to 18,000 vertical feet of powder heaven.

Lunch is included on the mountain during the day including wraps or sandwiches and homemade treats, as well as snacks, hot drinks and water. Coffee and a light breakfast are also provided in the morning.

Each guest is supplied with avalanche safety gear including a beacon, and backpack with a probe and a shovel, and you will be given instruction on how to use them in the unlikely event of an avalanche.

To make the most of the deep powder you can rent powder skis at Valhalla as well as poles with powder baskets, snowboards, and avalanche airbags.

See the Valhalla Powdercats overview page for general information including location. Also see the Powderhounds Valhalla Powdercats review.

Your day with Valhalla Powdercats starts at the base office at 7:30 am. The office is located at 987 Dogwood Dr. South Slocan, BC V0G 2G0, at the corner of HWY 6 and 3A (about 15-20 minutes drive from Nelson). You will need to have your own vehicle to get to the base office where there is plenty of parking space to safely leave your wheels for the day while skiing or riding deep pow. If you haven’t pre-signed it, you will sign your waiver, set up skis as required, be provided with avalanche safety gear, and enjoy some morning treats before getting on the bus.

From the office you will be driven in an all-terrain bus to the snowcat staging area where you will board your magic carpet ride (aka the snowcat).

After a short snowcat ride, your guides will run you through a comprehensive safety briefing and you’ll work with transceivers, probes and shovels. If you’re lucky enough to be doing more than one day of Valhalla Cat Skiing, on subsequent days you’ll go skiing/riding whilst others are doing their day 1 safety session.

Snacks and lunch will be eaten in the snowcat between runs. The finishing time for the cat skiing will be partly dependent on the time of the season, and you have the option to have some celebratory drinks on the ride down in the snowcat and/or the return bus trip to the office.

These packages do not include accommodation however Nelson is the ideal base for a day or more with Valhalla.
