One of the great advantages of Revelstoke Mountain Resort is that you can combine lift accessed skiing, heli skiing and cat skiing all in the one ski vacation.

Revelstoke cat skiing offers a gold class experience with all the bells and whistles. You can conveniently pick up some powder skis upon registration in the morning. You get the usual pampering regarding lunch and snacks, as well as an après session where you can high five with your new found friends. The snowcat is also five star and rather luxurious.

Using the fast gondola and chair lift to get up to the staging area provides a quick start to the day. The cat skiing offers nice steep tree skiing for advanced riders (but it’s not particularly good for intermediate powder riders) within an area that is somewhat avalanche controlled.

Like some other BC cat skiing operators, there is minimal alpine terrain, but the main con to Revelstoke cat skiing is the small size of the terrain. This is similar to various USA cat ski operations that are adjacent to ski resorts. It’s advantageous to be close to the ski resort, but small tenure can result in less fresh tracks and less terrain variety.

This isn't the best cat skiing Canada has to offer. See our cat skiing ratings to see how it compares to other cat skiing around the world.

Excellent Experience

In early March 2012, my wife, myself and my brother-in-law visited Revelstoke, which has become one of our favorite ski destinations. We have been fortunate enought to have done some cat and heli-skiing in other locations, and we booked 2 days with Revelstoke Cat Skiing. I have to say, I didn't have high expectations for two reasons. First, the weather was mild, which had adverse impact on conditions on the resort mountain. And second, the Revelstoke Cat terrain is adjacent to RMR, which had me concerned about side-country skiers tracking everything up. Boy, was I wrong on both accounts. The snow quality was great, the terrain was amazing, and we skied fresh tracks all day, without running over any sidecountry skier tracks. In addition, the guides were super friendly, and the cat itself was uber comfortable and well laid out.

Pros: 1) Easy access from RMR, 2) Great terrain, 3) Reasonable price, 4) Surprisingly good snow quality, 5) Great guides.

Cons: 1) Doesn't operate every day (only Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday)

We plan to go back to Revelstoke every season, and I can say that we will book 2 days with Revelstoke Cat Skiing on each trip. Definitely something for us to look forward to.
