Accommodation
There are at least four location options for accommodation when skiing at
Grand Targhee. You can stay on-mountain, off the mountain on the border, in or near the town of Driggs, or in Jackson and Teton Village.
On-Mountain Grand Targhee Lodging
The Grand Targhee master plan calls for some major accommodation development in the near future, but until then the only accommodation on the hill is in the Targhee, Teewinot and Sioux Lodges. All are within spitting distance of the ski hill (technically all ski in / ski out) and combined have only a few hundred beds. Staying on-mountain is not only great because of the ski-in ski-out convenience, but the small friendly village gives the feel of a private ski resort.
Sioux Lodge is the pick of them (see our
Sioux Lodge review). The recently renovated condos of Sioux Lodge are semi self contained units that come in a range of configurations from studios to two bedroom units.
The other ‘lodges’ are acceptable if you’re on a budget and all you’re after is a bed and a bathroom. Targhee and Teewinot Lodges offer essentially basic motel style rooms. Teewinot Lodge has a nice common area and lobby with open fireplace.
Accommodations & Vacation Rentals Near Grand Targhee
A little place called Alta exists just inside the Wyoming border a few kilometres off the hill. Several types of accommodation are available here including the classical, highly rated Teton Tepee Ski Lodge. A short distance on the other side of the border in Idaho is the condos and houses of the Teton Creek Resort. These beautifully appointed homes can be booked through the Grand Targhee ski resort.
Driggs Accommodation
A range of motels, condos, and cabins abound in Driggs as well as the odd B&B or two. Rooms are usually available at short notice. For a motel with huge rooms and pool facilities plus cheap rates, try the Super 8 to the north of the town centre. Avoid the forgettable complimentary ‘Sweet American Donut’ (SAD) breakfast. For cabins, try the
Teton Valley Cabins 1.5km east of town on the ski hill road.
Jackson and Teton Village Lodging
Over an hour away from Grand Targhee and contrary to popular belief, there is a huge range of reasonably priced Jackson accommodations – particularly in the chain and independent motel style.
Teton Village hotels and accommodations (ie the base area of the Jackson Hole ski resort) are more expensive. Take a look at our
Teton Mountain Lodge review.
