Ski Tours and Activities
Full day backcountry skiing and snowboarding tours are operated by the Solitude ski patrollers. The
Backtracks tours are just outside the resort boundaries and provide opportunities for ripping up virgin snow. The guided tour includes a lift ticket, avalanche transceiver, backpack, heel adapters or snowshoes, climbing skins, and snacks. To counteract the appetite worked up, the tour also includes lunch at Creekside Restaurant.
Solitude has Nordic skiing right out of the village with 20km of groomed trails for classic and skating styles. There are also 10km of snowshoeing trails. Rental equipment is available in the village.
Family Activities
There is an outdoor ice skating rink in the centre of the village. Skates can be rented from the Powderhorn Adventure Centre.
Club Solitude at Eagle Springs East offers complimentary activities for overnight guests. These activities include movies in the media room, a games area with billiards, X-Box, foosball table, computer games and board games. Very popular with families is the outdoor heated pool and hot tub. Club Solitude also host events which include family activities such as story telling and puppet shows.
Leisure Activities
For a dinner activity, the Solitude Yurt is a novel way to enjoy a scrummy 5 course gourmet meal. Dinner for 20 guests is hosted inside a well decked out yurt (Mongolian tent) located a short way up the mountain. Half the fun of the evening is getting there which is either via snowshoes or cross-country skis. Even though guests are provided lanterns to aid vision, there is plenty of giggling that goes on as diners venture up to the yurt in the dark. Once there, even going to the out-house bathroom in the deep snow with a headlamp on is novel. The cost is $100 per person (2008-09 prices) which includes the meal and the snowshoe or X-country equipment rental. Wine is BYO which can be purchased at the small grocery store in the village. Relaxation
Other than opportunities for a hot tub at the Inn at Solitude or through Club Solitude, pure relaxation can be achieved at Essentials Spa (in the Inn at Solitude). Various treatments are available including facials and massage packages.
