Shopping opportunities at Alpine Meadows are limited to almost non-existent. A small shop, Estelle Sports, in the main base lodge stocks a variety of technical clothing and fashion items.
Most shopping opportunities are centred on the towns of Tahoe City and Truckee. If staying on the hill at the Stanford, both require access to a vehicle, although a complex shuttle and public bus (the TART – Tahoe Area Regional Transit) combination can also get you to either town.
Both Tahoe City and Truckee have a wide range of supermarkets, restaurants, banking facilities, gear shops and other specialty shops. Tahoe City is quite pretty at night, particularly when it’s dumping snow. Some good ski gear shops are located in Truckee near the intersection with the interstate (the I80).
The nearby ski resort of
Squaw Valley has a range of shopping available spread through the village area, but it is a high end ski resort, and as such tends to have high end prices. There is also a full post office walking distance from the village.
