Accommodation

There is only one place to stay when skiing at Alpine Meadows and that is the delightful Stanford Alpine Chalet. It has a cosy lounge, awesome food, great staff and is walking distance to the lifts, which allows for a carefree stay at the only commercial accommodation on the hill. See our Stanford Alpine Chalet review for more information.

Lake Tahoe Hotels and Accommodations A massive range of accommodation exists in Lake Tahoe towns and along the lakeside within an hour’s drive of Alpine meadows.

Squaw Valley - there are many quality establishments in the valley including Village at Squaw Valley (1 - 3 bedroom units to suit 2 -8 people), the Squaw Valley Lodge (units to suit 2 – 6 people), Olympic Village Inn (rooms for 2-4 people) and also at the superb Resort at Squaw Creek (see our Resort at Squaw Valley review for more information).

Truckee & Tahoe City are towns 10 miles north and south of Alpine Meadows. Both have a full range of chain and independent hotels, motels, B&Bs, cabins, units and homes in a diverse price range. Access to Alpine Meadows is by free bus shuttle.

Reno & South Lake Tahoe have cheaper options an hour away by free bus shuttle or rental car. Reno and South Lake Tahoe have the added attraction of casinos and the associated nightlife. In Reno, casinos like Circus Circus have high season rooms for only US$55 a night. Similarly in South Lake Tahoe cheaper accommodation is available in the casinos or if prepared to risk it, at a couple of ‘hostel ‘type motels; Monaco Inn Hostel and Lone Pine Hostel (dorm rooms for about US$32). Other South Lake Tahoe accommodation includes the very good Embassy Suites. See our Embassy Suites review for more information.
