Accommodation

Accommodation for Valle Nevado  Accommodation on-mountain at Valle Nevado consists of three hotels and a couple of apartment buildings. The setting is spectacular as the hotel area sits on a ridge perched above two valleys.

Staying at Valle Nevado is not for the budget conscious. All accommodation packages are half board which includes lift tickets, breakfast, dinner and various other inclusions. During the main part of the season the accommodation arrangements are inflexible with respect to the arrival day and length of stay. Accommodation is arranged in full weeks during holiday season (July), or there’s also the option of 3 midweek days or 4 weekend days in regular season (late June and August). During value season (June and Sept) there’s more flexibility.

Cheaper accommodation and flexible stays can be found in Farellones or El Colorado, or down in Santiago.

Valle Nevado Hotel Accommodation The Valle Nevado Hotel is the plushest of the hotels at the resort. It is the closest hotel to the slopes and it’s pretty much ski-in ski-out. The rooms all have a terrace as well as various creature comforts. Standard rooms and suites are available. For a standard double room the prices vary from US$438 in high season per person, to $US244 in low season. Rates include dinner at any of the restaurants, breakfast and afternoon tea at La Fourchette, lift tickets, access to the fitness centre, a short massage (when staying 7 nights), children’s day-care, equipment waxing and edge sharpening, and access to other hotel facilities.

Hotel Puerta Del Sol is a slight step down from the Valle Nevado Hotel but it’s still very, very nice. The rooms are slightly smaller, and it’s not quite ski-in ski-out, but it’s only 50 metres from the slopes. This hotel is a little more oriented towards families with the potential for adjoining rooms. A standard double room in high season costs $US345 per person and $US181 in low season. Rates for this hotel also include lift tickets, breakfast and dinner. Other inclusions are very similar to the Valle Nevado Hotel. See our review of the Hotel Puerta del Sol for more information.

Hotel Tres Puntas is the least expensive option, but don't expect a bargain. The hotel is close to the slopes, only a 150 metre walk or slide away. The small rooms are a mix of standard hotel rooms and dorm-style rooms. For a double it costs from $US150 to $US261 per person per night depending upon the season. Rates are cheaper per person for additional people in a room. Rates include breakfast and dinner at the Sur Restaurant, lift tickets, and use of other resort facilities.

All rates provided are 2009 tariffs.

Condo Accommodation at Valle Nevado Condominiums are available for rent within the Valle del Sol and Valle de la Luna buildings. The self-catering apartments sleep up to 6 to 8 people and have direct access to the slopes. Rates are from $US480 to US$1,310 per night depending upon the season and size of the condo. Tariffs do not include lift tickets or meals.

Other Tres Valles Accommodation It is possible to stay in Farellones accommodation, El Colorado hotels or at La Parva. However even though the resorts are interconnected via the slopes, cross-resort access is only for advanced riders and is dependent upon weather and snow conditions. The resort where you stay is probably where you’ll do most of your skiing.

At El Colorado there are various ski-in ski-out apartments such as the Colorado Apart Hotel. Even though accommodation is cheaper than at Valle Nevado, it can still be expensive unless you’re travelling with a group, and the standard of accommodation is lower than at Valle Nevado.

Villa Farellones accommodation provides better value for money than El Colorado, especially for those travelling alone or in pairs. Farellones also has a range of budget options. Farellones has hostels, hotels and a couple of apartment complexes.

Off-Mountain Accommodations The other option is to stay in Santiago hotels and do day trips up to Valle Nevado. This option provides the flexibility to sample the other Tres Valles resorts, as well as the benefits of the nightlife, restaurants and the culture of Santiago. The obvious disadvantage of staying off-mountain is the daily commute and the potential that you’ll miss out on a powder day if the road is closed.

Other Accommodation Information Considering that the hotels at Valle Nevado are up at an elevation of about 10,000 feet, there is some risk of developing altitude sickness. Take it easy for a couple of days and take standard precautions to minimise the risk, including the consumption of lots of non-alcoholic fluids.

In the case of road closures to and from Valle Nevado, see the resort’s closed road policy as they do not cover any expenses incurred due to delay in arrival or departure.

Check in at Valle Nevado is not until 1600 hours unless your room is ready. Check out is at 1000 hours and a late check out is charged at a rate for one night!!

Overnight guests at the Valle Nevado can charge all costs for lunch, ski and snowboard lessons, equipment rental and shopping to their hotel room, and the exorbitant 19% tax can be avoided.
