Powder Highway EPIC

Join Mountain Movements for their extended “Powder Highway” Epic Tour where ripping down the slopes is the main focus; riding the best lines, on the best snow, at the best resorts. Along the way they take you to sample some of the best craft beer the Rockies has to offer, stopping at natural hotsprings to rest tired legs and take in the surrounding beauty of the Rockies.. Your day with MM doesn’t finish when you leave the ski hill, they will also take you to the best each town has to offer, engaging with locals and like minded travellers.

Mountain Movements are out to show people that your ultimate trip is one email/call away. Their mission statement is simple, “Do it right”. Combining decades of guiding and tourism experience they have created tours that are not only affordable, but come with service beyond the expected. They have tailor made each of their tours in such a way that the skiing/snowboarding at the end of the day just feels like an amazing bonus to a perfect tour. Taking the worry of travel, weather, equipment and reservations out of the equations. Sit back and relax in their 24 seater luxury coach with the only thing you will need to worry about being, “What drink do I want on arrival?

Who can join this tour?
Solo travellers, couples, small groups.

The great thing about how Mountain Movements have designed their tours, is that anyone can join. You might be a solo traveller looking for people to ride with. You might be a couple or small group who want to join a larger group, meaning when you hit the slopes no one is holding you back resulting in maximum enjoyment. Maybe one member of a couple doesn’t really ski/board but still want to join, MM have it covered with other optional activites and siteseeing options.

You can even be a private group and book the whole tour out, with a minimum of 12 people required for set date tours & a maximum of 24 guests per tour.

Custom tours may also be booked for groups as small as 4, with differing prices and dates to suit.

What ability do I need to be?All tours with Mountain Movements are best suited for Intermediate, Advanced and Expert riders. However our tour style also caters for complete beginners as all resorts visited provide lessons for beginners.

All tours are designed to be able to push yourself, with rider progression assisted with the increase in resort difficulty along the way. Couching tips can be provided along the way from our guides or snow hosts. Remember we want you to push yourself and maybe even dive into the more difficult riding available in North America. We have had first time riders tackling black diamonds only a couple of days into their riding!

What ski resorts will we visit? The Powder Highway is famous for its epic riding. A little off the main track, lift lines are minimal and snowfall is record setting.

Mountain Movements first take you to Fernie Alpine Resort. Famous for its 5 alpine bowls and exceptional beginners area makes it a winter playground for all abilities. After 2 epic days of riding at Fernie, you head deeper into the Kootenays with a quick stop at Kimberley to experience some amazing groomers and the largest gladed terrain around; only to then be taken to Rossland and Nelson. Two beautiful towns, both home to amazing amazing food, beer and some of the best snow around. Nelson is home to Whitewater, averaging over 40ft of dry powder; while Rossland has Red Mountain, the last great and unspoiled resort! After 3 days of riding here, your next day is spent relaxing while driving to Revelstoke. Along the way you stop at Ainsworth Hotsprings or Hayclon Hotsprings to benefit from the natural healing waters of some of BCs best natural hot springs.

Your next 2 days are spent witnessing the epicness of Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Home to North America’s largest vertical of 1713m, there is no shortage of big time riders here. After 2 leg burning days in Revy you head over Rogers Pass to the Golden; home to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, where there is no shortage of steeeeep chutes and champagne powder to explore for 2 days. The only thing more impressive than the riding here, are the epic 360 degree views at the top. Your last day is spent doing the most Canadian thing, driving your own dogsled team through Rockies around Banff/Canmore. A 24km roller coaster ride with Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours, the best way to finish such an epic journey.

What type of terrain will we be skiing/riding?All terrain explored on this tour is within resort boundaries. This is a mixture of on and off-piste. Fernie and Kimberley has the most beginner terrain available whilst Kicking Horse is one of the most challenging resorts in North America.

Who are the staff & what services will they provide?
The tour is hosted for the entirety of the journey. The tour is a max of 24 people, with 4-5 guides. If tour numbers are around 10 only 2-3 guides will be used. This does not include local guides at each resort, who are local mountain guides/local rippers who can help to guide you on and off the mountains.

Guide duties include the following:

  • Driving you around. Our Bus driver Tyler has over 15 years of guiding experience in the mountains, many of these spent skiing and teaching.
  • Guiding you on and off the resort. A combo of our guides and local mountain hosts show you the parts you want to ride making sure you never miss out.
  • Photographer….One of our guides is also a professional photography, ensuring you get the best shots.
  • Massage Therapist: 2 of our guides are RMTs meaning you don’t have to look too far if you need a massage after a long day riding.
  • Guiding is not just limited to skiing/boarding. It starts at breakfast and goes into the night. Remember we take you to the best hotsprings and breweries along the way.

All guides required for the tour are with you the whole time, helping to lead the charge either on the hill, in the apres lounge, or even later in town. Remember we want you to feel like a local wherever you go, riding the best lines, eating the best food and doing all of this with the best people.

You can choose to ski/board with your guide and the rest of the group or by yourself at any time.

Powder Highway EPIC Itinerary

The Tour officially starts and ends in Calgary. Pickup/drop-off is from  Calgary Airport or Hotel. Pickup/drop-off can also be arranged from Banff/Canmore..

Day 1 (Arrival Day/Ride Fernie)
Depart Calgary early and aim to be in Fernie, BC mid morning. This is to make sure you make the most out of your first day hitting the slopes. Experience the world famous powder and bowls that Fernie has to offer. Finish the day in town over some welcome drinks and good food. Your home base for the first couple of nights is Lizard Creek Lodge. 4.5 star ski-in luxury accommodations, with hot tubs, pool and even an ice bar! But we still make sure we head into the heart of Fernie. The Powder Highway is famous not just for its epic snow levels, but its good ol' mountain hospitality!

Day 2 (Ride Fernie)

Today is a great opportunity to really build your confidence up. Your second day at Fernie and a great chance to explore this amazing resort. Remember Mountain Movements have guides at every location to get the most out of your riding. When your legs have had enough, go and soak in one of the hot tubs or pools that the lodge has on offer. Back sore?? Don't worry......remember Mountain Movements have a massage therapist wherever you go! This is your final night in Fernie, so let's make sure you have a good time! Let's start at the brewery and go from there.

Day 3 (Ride Kimberly/Drive to Rossland)
A 90 min drive takes us to Kimberley, BC. Home to North America's largest gladed terrain, making it the perfect place to get some epic tree runs in! Stunning scenery, wide groomers and a relaxed atmosphere, as well as lift lines being virtually non existent, make for a perfect stop. You will then drive deeper into the Kootenays to Rossland. Driving a little under 4hrs, but don’t worry; the bus you go on is extremely comfortable, and it’s a beautiful evening drive!

Day 4 (Ride Red Mountain)
Voted the #1 ski town in North America, today is your chance to see why. This place has to be lived to be believed! It is all here. Kids ski to school while throwing double back flips over teachers cars. Olympians have been born and raised here. 4200 acres of pristine skiing. Called ‘The last great, unspoiled resort’. So amazing it has become legend. Some of the best glades in the North America, as well as 360 degree skiing from the top, oh and $10 "Cat Runs" on a new mountain they are developing next door. I know it sounds fake, but we can assure you this place exists. The only problem you will face is leaving this rad resort!

Day 5 (Free day)

Today is up to you. Ride the resort again, go fat-biking, maybe even Cat-skiing. This town is nothing short of epic! When the day is done, you are taken to Nelson, about 90 mins away. This beautiful town is home to amazing food, culture and a very under-rated resort. Upon arrival you set up shop at the Prestige Lakeside Resort.

Day 6 (Ride Whitewater)
Today is all about indulgence. First, after a hearty cooked breakfast at your hotel, you experience Whitewater. This small little ski resort is anything but, if size was determined by its snow fall. It averages over 40ft of snow a year! The runs here are shorter, but that just means you get to do more of them. Amazing snow and some of the best natural features a ski hill has to offer. The food at the resort is also world class, with Whitewater Café even having its own bestselling cook book. Back in Nelson after some shower and hot tub action, MM takes you into town to experience the amazing food this cute little town has to offer. Join MM for dinner or explore by yourself. One suggestion is El Taco, for a burrito and margarita. The Nelson Brewing Co. is also another option to sample some of the finest craft beer in the Rockies.

Day 7 (Rest Day/Drive to Revelstoke)

Today you get to sleep in. Explore this beautiful little town before the bus departs for Revelstoke. Along the way you will stop at Halcyon or Ainsworth Hotsprings. A good chance to rest your legs in the healing waters of BC. Enjoy this scenic drive through the mountains before arriving in Revelstoke. You will need your rest, as you will see this place is fast becoming the adventure capital of Canada.

Day 8 (Ride Revelstoke)
Revelstoke Mountain Resort is on the menu today. This place has to be seen to be believed. The biggest vertical in North America (1713m), 3121 acres (only 7% beginner sorry, but you are ready!), 4 alpine bowls and 15.2km run. This place is fast getting a reputation as a dream destination. On powder days you will see locals lining up at 7am to get first tracks, while cooking their breakfast in line over camp stoves. When you see this happening, you know it must be good. The terrain is hard to beat, giving you runs that would compete with most available at Cat-Skiing operations. Let one of our local snow hosts show you those secret stashes of snow or give you the tips you need to conquer this bohemoth. When you can't ride no more, Apres drinks are a must at the Village Idiot in town, giving you a chance to socialise with locals or maybe even bump into some pros that are filming in the region.

Day 9 (Free day)

Today you decide what to do. Revelstoke is the perfect place for it as there are so many options when it comes to winter activities! Go snowmobiling in some of the best terrain available anywhere. Go Cat-skiing, this is offered straight from the resort. If you are feeling extra adventurous we can even sort out a day of Heli-Skiing for you. Too much energy? How about some back country skiing and tour up Roger Pass? Or you can come out and conquer the mountain with us again. Whatever you do just make sure its epic!! You will stay one more night in Revelstoke....a great chance to go Curling, the lawn bowls of ice!

Day 10 (Drive to Golden/ Ride Kicking Horse)

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. The champagne powder capital of Canada. Steep and Deep! This is the perfect place final test. Can you wrangle the horse? We give you two days here to see if you can. Enjoy 360 views from Eagle Eye restaurant at the top of the resort, being the most elevated bar in Canada! You stay slopeside here, allowing you to ride right to your door. Tonight you head into town for dinner and some fresh beers at Whitetooth Brewery. Enjoy it but remember tomorrow is your last day riding!

Day 11 (Ride Kicking Horse/ Drive to Banff)
Wake up! This is your last day riding! Make sure you leave nothing in the tank. Join one of your guides again today to really push the envelope, or just go on your own. One last selfie on the chair. Huck that cliff you were looking at yesterday or even just bomb the cat track to the bottom. Whatever it is just make sure you go hard! You will leave the resort at last chair, arriving in Banff, AB for dinner and the group's last night together.

Day 12 (Dogsledding) – Departure Day
After a hearty breakfast your guides will drive you to Canmore as dogsledding is the main part of the agenda today. Allow Hayman, Mountain Movement's CoFounder, Manager and lead guide, take you on a journey like no other by Husky. He not only teaches you how to drive your own team of Husky Heroes, but leads you through the mountains on a 24km roller coaster of a ride. Take it all in, this might be the best thing you have done to date! The tour finishes midday allowing for a final Apres in town.

The tour is over but the journey may go on. Allow Mountain Movements to provide a complimentary shuttle to the airport either today or tomorrow. If you want to stay in the Banff area longer we can help sort out accommodations and lift passes etc. Even maybe a guide for the next couple of days if possible!

You can even jump on one of Mountain Movements 7 day tours for a bit more riding if you want. Whatever your plans, they will be more than happy to help you out.

Mountain Movements......Where you didn't just tour it.....You Lived It!
