Jerry and Jimmy the Kiwi mountain guides from Good Guides did a fantastic job showing us the terrain and powder on offer. They were relaxed but also safety conscious so we were able concentrate on the skiing .

The areas around Myoko are fragmented and hard to get to on your own, so the guiding was invaluable; transport, Japanese language and mountain guiding all saved us a heap of time and effort.

Jerry organised our ski holiday, everything from accommodation, ski hire, transport everyday, (not flights) to guiding and did a brilliant job. We were all rapt with how the holiday turned out.

Jerry and Jimmy are qualified NZ mountain guides and you can see that safety is their first priority. Having read a few forums about skiing in Japan, there have been fatalities from avalanches. This highlights the importance of having qualified guides who can take you to resorts and runs with heaps of untracked powder but do it safely.

We skied for 7 days and skied fresh powder everyday and most runs. This was despite having two or three days where it didn't snow, although we did tour on one of the days. Every day was well organised, nothing was too much hassle and everyone had heaps of laughs while still skiing until we dropped from exhaustion. It also is a great help that Jerry and Ben's (the tail guide) wife Ruka speak fluent Japanese and can organise restaurants and every thing that requires local language and knowledge.

If you want a well organised, fun, safe, reasonably priced skiing holiday around the Myoko and Hukuba area chose Goodguides, you won't regret it.

Thanks to Jimmy, Ben and Jerry for a brilliant time!

Jerry Williams provided an amazing tour for us. We saw and did things we could not have imagined. We visited 8 different ski fields in 8 days and Jerry adapted to the various levels in our group. He chased powder for the advanced skiers as well as providing opportunities for the less able in the group.
His ability to speak fluent Japanese meant we were totally stress-free in outfitting ourselves with gear, eating and ordering food in restaurants and buying ski passes etc.
Jerry took us on cultural tours and his personable attention to detail was outstanding. I would

Jerry ran a great trip and in addition was good company with a good sense of humour which he needed with our group. Accommodation was great, the skiing excellent including deep powder in trees, and lots of beautiful dry squeaky snow on a variety of terrain. We skied 7 days in a row until I demanded a day off and then skied again after that. Both Hakuba and Myoko have plenty of fields and good facilities. Hardly saw a queue and plenty of cafes. Not a Jimmy's pie in sight though.
Jerry also took us to some great local restaurants and on our day off to a boutique beer brewery, a sake distillery and a very good cake shop! And snow monkeys if you like that sort of thing. We'd definitely go back with Good Guides.

Good times with good guides!

Most of us are Tokyo based and we had ridden similar areas but wanted a proper guided experience to push ourselves outside of the normal routine. To put it simply, Riding was amazing! Almost everyday we rode lines that we thought were out of our reach but thanks to superior local knowledge combined with great experience and safety minded touring we always felt safe and comfortable being led down some of the most epic lines of our life! Off the mountain our guide was at home speaking Japanese which was a great surprise for our group and we had some great experiences going to onsens, shrines, snow monkeys and also having some well deserved beers and local dining. I would recommend this package to almost anyone as there is a great combination of the real japan mixed with the more adventurous and experience based exploring that comes with a smaller based operation.
