Weekend Warrior Overview

Leave all the big resorts and the crowds in southern BC and Alberta behind and head for the hills in northern BC where you will find deep-dry-cold-smoke and very few people!

This fully customisable tour takes in northern BC's hidden gems; Hudson Bay (near Smithers), Powder King (near nothing) & Shames Mountain (near Terrace).

Packages include a dedicated host & driver for the duration of the tour, accommodation and lift tickets and whilst these tours are predominantly un-guided, you have the option to spend some time with one of the local riders at each ski area to get the lay-of-the-land and maybe they will even show you a couple of their hidden stashes. Meals can be added on to the package or you are free to do your own thing.

The resorts visited in this region are quite spread out making a hosted road trip the ideal way to experience them; ski during the day and then relax in the evenings/mornings and let someone else drive you around.

If you are heading to Northern Escape Heliskiing in Terrace or Skeena Cat Skiing near Smithers, this tour could also be the perfect way to warm-up the legs.

Ability & GroupThis tour is for private groups only and requires a minimum of 3 to run with a maximum of 10 and suitable for beginners through to advanced skiers & boarders.

Sample Itinerary - The Weekend Warrior

This sample itinerary is totally flexible and available from December through March each year. Get some buddies together and book a weekend. Take Friday and Monday off work and call it a long weekend! It's up to you how you want the tour to roll but this itinerary allows you to ski all 3 resorts in just 4 days!!

The itinerary starts at Prince George Airport (YXS) & ends at Terrace Airport (YXT).

Arrival Day (Meet & greet at Prince George Airport & travel to Powder King)
From Vancouver, fly into Prince George after work on Thursday, where you will be greeted by Hayley from Adventure Camp Tourism (ACT) and driven 2 hours to Powder King Resort. This ski resort is pretty remote, but that’s what makes it so special. With 5,500 acres of terrain and 27 runs, there are glades for days, and huge dumps of light fluffy snow is the icing on top.

You will arrive after dark and take dinner at the on-mountain bar and restaurant for some hijinks as ACT get to know your group. Then, you will settle into hostel-style accommodation at the foot of the chair lift to dream of the adventure to come.

Day 1 (Full day of skiing/boarding at Powder King)
Wake up shiny and new to see Powder King for the first time. And it’s spectacular. Chow down a quick breakfast sandwich and hash browns at the cafe, then you will meet your local rider to show you the secret powder stashes on the mountain. Lunch is taken in the cafe and you can ski and board till dark (or until you can’t stand anymore).

The staff at Powder King live on the mountain during the season, so the bar and restaurant will be full of your new friends by the end of the day. Enjoy your night without the worry about driving anywhere as you just have to walk to the hostel to crash for the night.

Day 2 (Ski/board Powder King & travel to Smithers)
Today is a big day, so enjoy your coffee with breakfast and hit the slopes. This is your weekend get-away, so you spend it how you like. Revisit your favourite spots from yesterday, hit the groomers, the park or explore some new ground, it’s all good!

The group will get packed up and be on the road around 3pm for the drive to Smithers. Snooze or just chill out. Dinner is up to you. The group can stop en-route, pick up some pizza to munch on the way, or wait till you get to Smithers where there are almost more restaurants than people.

In Smithers, you will be staying at the Stork Nest Inn, a cute little Bed and Breakfast near Main St. Price quoted is for double occupancy but you can stay solo for an extra fee.

Day 3 (Full day of skiing/boarding at Hudson Bay ski resort)
Enjoy a full cooked breakfast before being shuttled only 20 minutes to Hudson Bay Mountain Resort. Named as one of North America’s best secret ski towns by National Geographic, you’ll always find fresh tracks and rarely a line-up. You will meet your local rider for the day and visit their favourite locations on the mountain. The locals are super friendly and often spend their summers cutting their own runs on the mountain, so it definitely pays to ride with someone who knows the terrain. Lunch is taken on the mountain, and there is always something happening at the lodge or in town after the lifts close. The night is spent back at the Stork Nest Inn, and you better get your rest as tomorrow is an early one.

Day 4 (Travel to Shames, ski/board the day & fly home from Terrace Airport)
6am the group will depart for the 2 hour drive to Shames Mountain. Shames is known for its massive dumps, giving it one of the deepest consistent snow packs in North America, receiving 475 inches per year. You’ll meet another local rider to show you the best the mountain has to offer, and top your weekend off with your new buds, super wiped and super happy.

From Shames, you will head straight to Terrace Airport for your flight back to Vancouver, and reality…. till next time!
