How to get there

Where is The Remarkables Ski Field? The Remarkables ski field is within The Remarkables mountain range on the southeastern shores of Lake Wakatipu near the town of Queenstown New Zealand.

Getting To The RemarkablesIt is a 45 minute drive from Queenstown to The Remarkables ski resort. The road up is unsealed, corrugated, steep, dusty and has no safety rails. After snow fall it's potentially treacherous. Chains definitely need to be carried and signs on the way up the mountain will indicate if chains need to be put on 2-WD or 4-WD vehicles.

If you don’t want to drive, but would rather put your life in someone else’s hands (!!), there are frequent shuttle bus services to and from Queenstown. NZSki Snowline (ie the resort) runs shuttles from the Snow Centre (The Station Building – Duke Street Queenstown) for $15 return (2012 rate). During peak times, buses depart every 20 minutes. They also have various pick-up locations across Queenstown, but only when space is available in the bus, so this is an unreliable form of transport.

Alternatively there are various other transport providers. Kiwi Discovery is one example. Their SkiLink service provides mountain transfer from over 25 locations around Queenstown at a cost of $24 return for an adult and $15 for a child (2011 rate). The service is pre-booked so you’re guaranteed a seat.

Getting Around The RemarkablesThe last time we visited The Remarkables, the carpark was a complete bog hole. You needed waders and definitely had to be able to don your boots inside the car. Thankfully the car parking is free.

From the carpark, there is a reasonable walk up to the lifts. There is a shuttle bus up to the base, but from 10-3:30pm it provides transport for skiers returning from the Homeward Bound run.
