Mercure Queenstown Resort

Mercure Queenstown Resort

Where is the Mercure Queenstown Resort?

The Mercure Queenstown Resort is located up at Fernhill, approximately 3km (3 mins drive) to downtown Queenstown. Due to its location sitting high on the hill, it affords spectacular views across Lake Wakatipu to the Remarkables.

Most of the major bus services pick up and drop off at the resort, so getting to/from town and to/from the Queenstown ski fields is very straight forward. If you are self-driving, free car parking is available and it is only 25 mins drive to the nearest ski area (Coronet Peak) and about 50 mins drive to The Remarkables.

Hotel Accommodation

At the Mercure Resort Queenstown you can choose from a either a garden suite hotel room or a premium lake view room.

The rooms are a good size and have either twin queen beds or a king bed with a maximum capacity of 2 people per room. There are some adjoining rooms for families and larger groups.

Each room comes with a flat screen TV, mini fridge and small work desk with internet connectivity via a LAN cable (at an additional charge). There is no wifi in the rooms however it is available in the common areas for a fee.

Hotel Facilities

For those who haven't had enough exercise on the slopes there is a gymnasium (complete with inspirational views), or if a bit of muscle relaxation therapy is required, why not take a dip in the outdoor hot tub and/or sweat it out in the sauna (there is also a separate sauna for women who prefer a bit of privacy). There is a beautiful outdoor pool, however this would only be for the hard-core during winter as it is not heated.

You can stay connected with one of the several internet kiosks on site or via wireless internet in the lobby, bar and restaurants. This is free for the first half hour each day and then additional charges apply.

Other facilities include a coin operated laundry and free car parking at the front of the resort.

Restaurants

The Mercure Queenstown Resort has a bistro style restaurant set in an atrium which has one of the most spectacular view aspects in Queenstown, plus a nice little cocktail bar which is an ideal meeting place for apres or a pre dinner drink. There is also a second restaurant where breakfast is served each day (again complete with amazing views).

Why Stay at the Mercure Resort?

The Mercure resort provides exceptional value for the quality of accommodation offered.

Great Value

18/08/2012
The Mercure Hotel provides exceptional value for money, and the hotel far exceeded our expectations considering the tariffs. This isn’t a luxurious, super modern hotel, yet it provides a very good standard of hotel accommodation.

The stunning views are the piece de resistance of the hotel, particularly from the restaurant and bar. It’s worth paying a little extra for a lake view room, and there’s definitely merit in having breakfast at the hotel because the views from the breakfast room are sensational. There’s a risk that you might want to languish there for a couple of hours!

The hotel is a little out of town. You’ll manage without a car by using the Connectabus, but ideally you want to have a car if you’re staying at the Mercure (and thankfully the parking is free). Whilst the location isn’t as convenient as some hotels in central Queenstown, the upside is being up on the hill with the dramatic vistas.

The aptly named Vista Restaurant is very good for dinner. The food is mostly casual fare and the prices are generally inexpensive, and they also have amazing 3-course deals if you’re hungry.

Other pros of the hotel include the quality of the service, the outdoor hot tub, and the happy hour drinks at the bar!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mercure Resort and would very happily stay there again.
