The shopping opportunities at the Mt Cook village are mainly limited to the Hermitage Retail Centre, a large shop located adjacent to the Hermitage Hotel lobby. The shop mainly sells kiwi and Mt Cook souvenirs and Mt Cook photography books. Also on offer: clothing that showcases NZ such as Ugg boots (although not the good quality type); merino mink apparel; other knitwear; and lots of Icebreaker clothing.
The Alpine Guides shop adjoins the main shop and sells mountaineering equipment, supplies and clothing.
For those staying in the self-contained motel units or chalets who want a cook up at Mt Cook, try and stock up on supplies in Lake Tekapo or Twizel before arriving. The Hermitage Retail Centre sells a small range of groceries, frozen goods, and sundries, but at a premium. A few basic groceries are also sold at the YHA.
