Activities & Tours
Methven has an information centre in the main street, with plenty of tourist information, brochures, maps and staff on hand to provide advice. Methven is not completely adventure-activity driven like Queenstown, but there are still quite a few things to do.
If you want to go jet-boating,
Rakaia Gorge Alpine Jet offers some thrills in the nearby Rakaia Gorge. Heli-skiing is available through
Helipark New Zealand (Mt Potts),
Mt Hutt Helicopters (accessing the Mt Hutt and Taylor range) and
Southern Alps Heliski, but our recommendation would be the incredibly experienced
Methven Heli-ski.
For other activities in the air to soak up the views you can try hot air ballooning or skydiving. The
golf course is not just limited to summer and the views across the mountains add to the experience making for an enjoyable hit. And what would a trip to New Zealand be without taking in a “Lord of the Rings tour”?
For rainy days you could catch a movie at Cinema Paradiso, visit the indoor skate park, or for complete relaxation have a sports massage. Alternatively some people travel into Christchurch to partake in activities such as swimming at the QE2.
