Lodge AIBIYA

Lodge AIBIYA

Lodge Aibiya is located in Yudanaka township and the perfect place to relax after a day on the slopes or visiting the snow monkeys. The hosts are trilingual and provide a high level of Japanese service backed up with western insights gained by working overseas. The lodge is a renovated Japanese ryokan, so you can experience the lovely Japanese décor without a large price tag. Choose from dorm or private rooms; most rooms utilise communal bathrooms.

Where is Lodge Aibiya?

The lodge is located in the village of Yudanaka (otherwise known as snow monkey town) in Yamanouchi town, only 280m (3 minute walk) from the Yudanaka train station, which is where buses to Shiga Kogen and Ryuoo Ski Park depart from. To get to Yudanaka you can catch the train from Nagano (45 mins).

Lodge Aibiya is only 280m from the Lawson convenience store and there is also a supermarket nearby. There are multiple dining options within a 5 minute walk of the lodge including HAKKO (bar with food), sushi, ramen and café/bar.

Stayed for 6 nights in this cozy, welcoming and relaxing hostel. The hosts were very thoughtful, the room was quiet, warm and comfortable and we enjoyed being able to cook and relax in the tatami lounge.

Short walk to train station and bus stop which will take you to most of the local attractions.

We would love to go back and fully recommend Hostel Aibiya.

My extended family along with my husband stayed at this hostel two years ago and will be staying there again at Christmas time. we will be a large group of 18 family and friends. It was such an enjoyable stay in an extremely clean hostel with wonderful hosts who were able to help us with lots of local knowledge. Thats why we are returning again this year

Great Lodge & Fantastic Hosts

A lovely room
Funky decor in the dining room
The well equipped kitchen
Hostel Aibiya (now called Lodge Aibiya) offers incredibly well priced lodging that provides a great Japanese experience in a cute Japanese onsen town. It has the kitchen facilities you’d expect of a hostel and you do your own breakfast dishes and cook your own eggs, but calling it a “hostel” doesn’t do it justice because the quality of the accommodation is much higher than what you’d expect of a hostel (perhaps why they call it High Quality Hostel Aibiya!). It’s a cross between a little Japanese ryokan and a nice lodge, and you have the added bonus that the incredibly super friendly hosts speak fluent English and can provide lots of recommendations so you can make the most out of the surrounding areas. They can provide recommendations on getting to the snow monkeys, the nearby ski resorts, and the various restaurants and bars in the area. We absolutely highly recommend this place!

We stayed in 2 private twin rooms, which was reasonably spacious, very clean, and the décor was lovely. The pillows were good and the beds firm as you’d expect for Japan, whilst being comfie, and the big thick doonas were lovely. The room wasn’t particularly sound proofed, which is also what you’d expect for an old ryokan.

The breakfast fare was very good and included local apples, coffee, yoghurt, granola, cook your own eggs, and toast.

The location was great and it was easy to walk to nearby restaurants, the station, and up to Shibu Onsen. We also got discounted passes for one of the Yudanaka onsens (Yoroduya onsen) which was spectacular.

Thanks Yoshi and Seongmi for a fantastic stay.
