How to get there
Where is Sapporo Kokusai? Sapporo Kokusai is west of the city of
Sapporo in Hokkaido Japan. By road it’s about 46km between Sapporo and Sapporo Kokusai (a one hour drive). The driving route can go via Otaru or Jozankei. It is 19km between the Jozankei hot spring town and Sapporo Kokusai (25-30 minute drive).
Sapporo Kokusai shouldn’t be confused with the Joetsu Kokusai ski resort which is located near Yuzama in the Niigata Prefecture.
Bus between Sapporo and Sapporo Kokusai
Hokkaido Resort Liner has a bus service to Sapporo Kokusai from the JR Sapporo station or various Sapporo hotels. They offer a special that includes a lift ticket and return bus trip for only ¥4,800 (2011 rate). It’s very convenient but there is only one service per day that arrives at Kokusai at 10am, and the trip may take up to 2 hours if your hotel is at the start of the pick up line.
Hokkaido Resort Liner also offer transport between Sapporo Kokusai and the New Chitose Airport.
Alternatively there are Daiichi Kanko and Jotetsu buses that go from the Sapporo Station bus terminal no. 16 or the Subway Makomanai Station via Jozankei to Sapporo Kokusai. There are 6 departures in the morning from Sapporo between 7am and 9:30am, and 6 departures from Sapporo Kokusai in the afternoon between 2pm and 5:30pm. The day trip package that includes a one day lift ticket is sold on the bus: ¥4,800 for adults, ¥3,900 for youths, and ¥2,000 for elementary school children (2011 rates).
Taxi from Sapporo
If you don’t have a car, another option is to get a taxi from Sapporo to Sapporo Kokusai. It only takes about an hour and costs approximately ¥10,000 each way.
Other Ski Resorts Nearby
Kiroro Snow World is only a few kilometres from Sapporo Kokusai as the crow flies, but it’s 41km by road (a 70 minute drive). If you’re staying at Kiroro and want to do a day trip to Sapporo Kokusai, another option is to make a reservation for the
snowcat shuttle that travels between the top of the two resorts and takes only 20 minutes.
Niseko is about a 1:50 hour drive away (84km to 98km depending on the route taken). To get to Sapporo Kokusai from Niseko you could hire a car in Niseko (in Higashiyama), or transport from Niseko is included in the guided
Black Diamond Tours of Sapporo Kokusai.
Rusutsu is about a 1:35 hour drive from Sapporo Kokusai.
Sapporo Teine is another of the
Sapporo ski areas and only 40-45 minutes from downtown Sapporo.
