How to get there
Location
Kitataisetsu is located 85km North-East of Asahikawa, near Shirataki.
Other resorts nearby Pippu is on the way from Asahikawa.
Getting There From Asahikawa, Kitataisetsu can be accessed by car (no parking fees) with an approximate travel time of 1.5 hours. Car rental outlets can enter GPS details to aid your trip there. For self-navigation take the R39 out of town (to Sounkyo) past Kamikawa, turn left (sign posted) onto R273, then right onto R333, then the resort is about 4km up a road to the right (sign posted). In early 2008, there was a partially built toll-way between Asahikawa and Shirataki which was too new to be on maps or in the GPS map, but is likely to be a faster route. A major leg of the tollway cost 650 Yen.
On one occasion, we drove to Kitataisetsu from
Furano, which is about a 2 hour drive. Turn right towards Asahikawa airport, and get onto the tollway from here.
There are trains available from Asahikawa to Shirataki (1.5 hour trip), then it’s a 25 minute taxi trip to Kitataisetsu.
