Le Domaine de Balme (1,453m - 2,270m)
Novices and experienced skiers and snowboarders will find a magnificent playground on this vast sun-soaked resort. Domaine du Balme is probably the best ski area in the valley for beginners and intermediates.
There are two distinct mountain sides with the gentle wide open slopes of the Charamillon area or the Vallorcine descents on longer runs through magnificent forests (also giving good protection in bad weather) near the Swiss border.
At the bottom three drag lifts make up the Vormaine area, ideal for complete novices or children with its green and blue runs. Off the back-side of Le Tour there is plenty of off-piste and this is arguably the best area for boarders in the Chamonix Valley. The ski resort has 19 pistes in total: 1 black, 7 reds and 11 blues.
Access to this delightful ski area is possible from either La Tour or Vallorcine.
