The village and
ski resort of St Anton are well established with good infrastructure. The village is quite cosmopolitan and lively, with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and various facilities including ski school and rental shops.
At the base of the gondola there are locker services for skis and boards including heated boot storage. About half an hour after the lifts open, the storage areas seems to hit peak hour, and frustration levels also hit peak hour. In other words, make sure you get there early (or very late).
Eating On Mountain There are many on-mountain restaurants to choose from varying from Coles cafeteria type lunch spots to quaint eateries. Examples of the former are at the main lift stations at Gampen and Galzig, and they lack any charm or welcoming atmosphere. Quite the opposite are various restaurants dotted across the mountain and the restaurant above the village of St Christoph.
Our favourite lunch spot was the Berghaus Stuben (in Stuben) where the service, atmosphere and röstis were complete winners. We returned quite a few times and enjoyed either dining inside or sunbaking out on the terrace.
Facilities for ChildrenThe
Alberg Ski School runs childcare (kindergarten) for children aged 2-5. For 3-5 year olds, they run introduction to skiing classes. For children 5-14 years there are ski lessons which operate 4.5 hours per day. Qualified English speaking nanny supervision is available.
Ski School The resort of St Anton is famous for having established the first ski school, so they’ve had plenty of experience. There are two ski schools -
the Arlberg and
St Anton.There are a variety of programs available for skiing and snowboarding including carving, free-ride, cross-country and heli-skiing. The Arlberg provides 4 hour group lessons for €61 and 2 hour private lessons for €156. The prices between the two schools are very similar.
Ski and Snowboard Rental There are many ski and snowboard rental shops including various outlets of
Intersport. Premium class ski or board set costs €45 and a standard package is €39.
Banking Facilities There is an ATM in the main street and also an internet café.
