Accommodation
There is no on-mountain accommodation at
Whitewater ski resort (yet!). Most people stay in nearby Nelson, 19km away.
Nelson BC Hotels
Many of the Nelson hotels are located in the Baker Street district or adjacent to the lake. Many of the hotels and accommodations are turn-of-the-century historic buildings that have been lovingly restored.
A classic example is the historic
Hume Hotel which is quintessentially Nelson. Formerly the Heritage Hotel, the Hume Hotel is a Nelson landmark and full of character. The
Cloudside Inn (408 Victoria St) was built in 1900 by one of the first pioneers to settle in Nelson. It retains many of its splendid Victorian features and has been converted into an upscale inn with delightful rooms and a few mod cons. The boutique hotel is located only one street off Baker Street (the main street).
If you want to stay in a modern Nelson hotel you can’t beat the

The Prestige Inn-Lakeview, the sister hotel of The Prestige Lakeside Resort is located just down the road and is another good choice. Guests of this smaller hotel are welcome to use the facilities of the Prestige Lakeside Resort.
Other Nelson Accommodation Options
There are various other Nelson accommodation options, all of which provide great value for money. Nelson BC has a few motels, guest houses, and bed and breakfasts.
Nelson also has a few hostels. Good backpacker lodgings can be found at the
White House.
Other Budget Accommodations for Whitewater Ski resort
The little town of Ymir is another option for those skiing at Whitewater ski resort, only 20 minutes away. The absence of any hub-bub and the cheap prices are the main drawcards. The
Ymir Palace is a charming old guest house that has been lovingly restored. The accommodation is budget in price, but not budget in quality. The rooms are somewhat simple, but the antique furnishings, the heritage of the building, and the absolutely lovely hosts add to the attractiveness of this quaint accommodation.
Quaintness is overtaken with quirkiness at the Ymir Hotel down the road. Here the accommodation is really, really cheap, and the eccentric and eclectic mix of “decorations” in every nook and cranny of the building make it a tourist attraction.
BTW, the locals will look at you strangely if you pronounce Ymir incorrectly. It’s pronounced “Why-Mer”. The popular local joke is that it’s pronounced “Why Am I Here” or the short version of “Why-‘m-I-‘ere”? Ymir is only a tiny town, so don’t expect variety-packed nightlife or shopping.
