Facilities & Services

The Kicking Horse village is fairly small but rapidly growing. The facilities at Kicking Horse are fairly minimal, but more than adequate considering the number of visitors. Many of these operate out of the day lodge at the base.

Eating On Mountain At the top of the gondola is the amazing Eagle’s Eye restaurant. Resting atop a rugged ridge, the views from the restaurant are fabulous. The terrace out the back affords even better opportunities to appreciate the vista. As well as an optical delight, the restaurant is a gourmet treat. Lunch options are a little more simple than dinner cuisine, but nevertheless superb.

The Heaven’s Door Yurt near the base of the Stairway to Heaven chair is open 11am to 3pm for a casual lunch or quick snack. The outdoor fire pit is a good place to warm up.

At the base there is a coffee shop, sushi restaurant, pub, and a daylodge that serves a range of cafeteria food. Considering much of the Kicking Horse accommodation is ski-in ski-out, there is also the opportunity to just have lunch in your condo, and enjoy the previous night’s leftovers.

For other restaurants, see the Kicking Horse restaurants page.

Facilities for Children The Kicking Horse Kids Club provides childcare for ages 18 months to 5 years for a full day or half day. Prices are “middle of the road” for Canadian ski resorts. They also organise a kid’s night out on Friday and Saturdays for $25 for 2 hours and $45 for 4 hours (not including dinner).

Ski School The mountain school has top notch instructors, so if you want to progress your skiing to ride the steeps, this is the place to learn. The lessons can be a little more expensive than at other resorts, but the instructors are very well qualified so you’re paying for quality that’s worth it. See if you can have a lesson with Mike who is an institution of Kicking Horse.

They provide guiding to explore the “secret” parts of the mountain for strong intermediates to advanced riders. Along the way they’ll provide some tips to improve technique. The Big Mountain Centre provides education on riding the big parts of the Kicking Horse mountain, as well as avalanche training.

Ski and Snowboard Rental Canyon Creek Outfitters in Glacier Lodge provide good quality ski and snowboard equipment rental, but it’s probably mostly suited to beginner and intermediate riders. They also rent cross-country skis, telemark skis, snowblades and have a full repair shop.

Banking Facilities The Kicking Horse General Store has internet access and an ATM.
