Accommodation

There is no shortage of Fernie hotels and other Fernie accommodations available. The biggest decision will be whether to stay on-mountain at Fernie Alpine Resort or in the town of Fernie which is 5km (3 miles) away. For those without a car, there are shuttles or taxis to get between the town and the ski area.

Accommodation Fernie Alpine Resort The slope-side mountain village at Fernie Alpine Resort continues to develop, but it’s still mainly residential with only limited dining, drinking and shopping opportunities. Families and others who want to be close to the skiing generally prefer to stay at Fernie Alpine Resort. The village has various ski-in ski-out condos and hotel style accommodation.

A stand out Fernie hotel is the award-winning Lizard Creek Lodge. This accommodation is not over-the-top opulent, but provides luxurious lodgings that are conveniently ski-in ski-out and arguably located in the best spot on the hill. Accommodations include hotel style suites in the actual lodge, or there are a range of condos adjacent to the lodge building. This fabulous property has great facilities including a lip-smacking fine dining restaurant, an upscale bar, day spa, pool and other trimmings. See our Lizard Creek Lodge review for more information.

In the centre of the village is the Cornerstone Lodge, a slope side condominium hotel with one and two bedroom suites that have a full kitchen. As a guide to rates, a one bedroom condo starts at $216 during standard winter season per night.

The Griz Inn is an older property located nearby that has hotel rooms, studios and one to three bedroom condominiums. Hotel rooms start at $99 in winter (non-peak season) whilst a premium 3 bedroom suite with loft that sleeps up to 10 costs $408 per night during the standard winter season (2010 rates).

Another economical option is the Wolf’s Den Lodge. The lodge rooms have a private bathroom and very simple décor and bedding. The hotel/lodge is ski-in and a 2 minute walk out to the lifts. See our Wolf’s Den Lodge review for more information.

The Fernie Alpine Resort village has various other lodges, chalets and private vacation rentals.

Fernie Hotels and Other Accommodations in Town The other option for accommodation is in the town of Fernie, which has the advantage of better access to a range of dining and nightlife options. The town is definitely historic, but don’t expect the charming buildings that you might find in other turn-of-the-century towns.

The town of Fernie has various hotels. Top of the pops is probably the Best Western Fernie Mountain Lodge. This hotel has a wide choice of accommodations including one-bedroom suites, executive suites and deluxe suites with Jacuzzi.

For good budget Fernie motel accommodation try the Super 8 Motel, located on the ski hill side of town.

For the budget oriented there are also two hostels in town, The Raging Elk and the SameSun Hostel.
