Valhalla Powdercats - Day Cat Skiing Packages

The terrain is 6 times larger than Whistler and Blackcomb combined and consists of alpine bowls, steep deep tree runs, challenging chutes and snow conditions (know as Kootenay Powder) at Valhalla is some of the best you will find in the Selkirk's with a 7 to 9 metre annual snowfall of dry fluffy powder.

Your day with Valhalla Powdercats starts at their base office by 7:30 am where you will sign your waiver, set up skis and enjoy some morning treats before getting on our bus. Their office is located at 987 Dogwood Dr. South Slocan, BC V0G 2G0, at the corner of HWY 6 and 3A (about 15 minutes drive from Nelson). You will need to have your own vehicle to get to their base office where they have plenty parking space to safely leave your wheels for the day while skiing or riding deep pow. From here you will be driven to the snowcat staging area for your magic carpet ride to your first run.

Depending on snow conditions and the speed of the group, a typical day can be anywhere from 7 to 11 runs of powder heaven.

A gourmet lunch is included on the mountain during the day. Guests are supplied with avalanche safety gear including beacons, and backpacks with a probe and a shovel per person and you will be given instruction on how to use them in the unlikely event of an avalanche.

Valhalla Powdercats operate 2 Piston Bully snowcats each capable of carrying 12 guests and 2 guides. You will be guided by a qualified guide in a maximum group of 6 guests to each guide.

Ability & FitnessYour skiing or riding skills should allow you to ski most expert trails at ski areas in a variety of snow conditions without falling. This is wilderness skiing which means snow conditions vary from day-to-day and storm-to-storm. There are no groomed runs so you must be comfortable with traversing and skiing or riding in all types of snow including powder or its less forgiving variations. We are looking for keen skiers and boarders that want to ride all day long.

Fitness is as important as ability. No matter how strong your technique, a day of skiing our terrain can be frustrating if you are out-of-shape. Why waste your important quality time gasping instead of grinning? Being rested and in good physical condition for this adventure is important for both a pleasant experience, and safe one.
